If you love poetry, you will love Have Nine Lives! What I appreciated the most about Buttigieg's writing is his thoughtful word choices. You feel the words, rather than just read them. They're warm, soft, chilling, violent, scary, beautiful, and a million other things. Poetry well done.
The author does an amazing job of conveying his thoughts and emotions!
"Ill Gotten Gains" from 'Have Nine Lives' is a vivid tapestry of imagery and emotion. The stately portraits in the sun and the photographic waves create a hauntigly beautiful atmosphere. Each line evokes a sense of nostalgia and reflection, painting a picture of life's fleeting moments and the inevitable passage of time
The poem's structure, with its stark contrasts and poignant phrases like " standing naked in the road" and "the mark of the dead" captures the raw essence of existence. The juxtampostion of "sweet treats" with "all the blood rushing to their heads" adds depth, hinting at the complexities and contradictions we face.
